Time and money: the woes of a freelance musician
Monday, June 23 - 11:43pm EST
Alright, so I've been in New York City for almost six months now, and I think I've done a pretty good job so far of playing music and supporting myself in whatever ways I can. It's hard though. This might be the busiest I've ever been in my life. Just practicing my three instruments and going to my flute/sax lessons take up so much time. Then I'm working at two day jobs that total about 35 hours a week. I'm playing in a summer wind ensemble which thankfully is only once a week. Then I'm designing and managing websites for two clients and about to start a third this week. At top of all of this, I'm trying to find time to do normal things and exercise and socialize.
Wow, now that I spelled it all out like that, it's pretty crazy. I still want music to be my first priority, but it feels like I use up all my time doing these other things. Hell, I don't even remember to update this blog more that once a month! I could quit one of my day jobs, but I need the money. Hours each day get eaten up by traveling around the city, but there's not really much I can do about that. There are just so many things I want to do here! I wish I had like 6 more hours in every day. And I wish I was one of those people that have so much energy that they can actually squeeze like 6 more hours of stuff into every day.
